Abstract
MCP-1 (monocyte chemoattractant protein-1), also known as chemokine (CC-motif) ligand 2 (CCL2), comes from the CC chemokine family. It plays an important role in the development of inflammation, which can produce or enhance the expression of other inflammatory factors/cells. It leads to the development of many diseases through the main mechanism of inducing the migration and infiltration of inflammatory cells (such as monocytes/macrophages and other cytokines) to the site of inflammation. MCP-1 has been directly or indirectly attributed to the pathogenesis of many diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases, neuroinflammatory diseases, etc. This review will focus on the involvement and role of MCP-1 in the pathology of various diseases.
